Four general areas of antenna development will be discussed. These areas are: small antennas, diversity and SDMA antennas, slot antennas and antenna efficiency measurements. The areas will be given a broad overview and are based on the research of the author and his colleagues and his graduate students.

General ideas regarding the behaviors of the various antennas will be emphasized and antenna performances will be presented based on measurements and numerical simulations. Many of the antennas have been analyzed extensively using WIPL-D. Most of the antennas under discussion are original with the author and his graduate students.

Small antenna topics will range from wild life heart signal monitoring to short range hospital monitoring of patients. A number of patented diversity antennas and space division multiple access antennas will be presented. Slot antenna development involving the author from 1961 to 2006 will be discussed. Finally, a high accuracy small antenna efficiency measurement method will be simulated using WIPL-D. A high accuracy between the measurement, analysis and WIPL-D simulation results are obtained.
