Konkurs za Research Assistant/PhD Student poziciju na Johan Kepler Univerzitetu u Lincu, Austrija

At the Institute of Applied Physics (Prof. Dr Thomas Klar) of the Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria, we announce an open position for a:

Research Assistant / Ph.D. Student (f/m)

in the extent of employment of 30 hours per week, limited to 3 years. The salary will be as established by the by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) for doctoral students.

A very good diploma or master’s degree in physics or a closely related field is required for the position.

The research activities within the project will be focused on:

Light-manipulation with plasmonic nanostructures and metamaterials in organic solar cells

The work will complement the ongoing research at the Institute of Applied Physics (Prof. Dr Thomas Klar). The specific topics will include nanofabrication, optical spectroscopy and numerical simulations of hybrid systems consisting of plasmonic nanostructures or metamaterials and photoactive organic thin films. The studies will provide realistic models of the light-manipulation mechanisms in organic cells and pinpoint the factors limiting the enhancement efficiency by nanostructures.

In addition to excellent grades, the candidates are expected to possess a strong background in physics and optical spectroscopy. Particularly profound knowledge in nano-optics/photonics and solid state physics or organic semiconductors physics is highly appreciated. Both analytical and numerical simulation skills are welcome. The ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and methods, proficiency in English or German, interest in scientific work, good presentation skills and willingness to present scientific work at international conferences are strongly recommended in order to be considered for the position.

The successful applicant will be allowed to work in a creative environment within the excellent research teams. The accepted applicant will additionally have the opportunity to enroll in a PhD program in Physics at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) and to prepare a Ph.D. thesis.

Note that the JKU follow an equal opportunity hiring policy, thus, when equally qualified, we will give preference to female applicants to balance the research team.
