Future Wireless – Trends and Challenges

In this talk the trends of several wireless communications aspects, including wireless technology, services, device technology, research and markets are discussed. Furthermore, an approach in distributed turbo coding (DTC) with soft information relaying is examined.

Instead of making hard decisions on the transmitted information symbols, as in the conventional DTC systems, the relay calculates and forwards the soft estimates of the transmitted symbols in the form of a posteriori probabilities. The proposed scheme has a significantly better performance than the conventional DTC. It approaches the performance of the DTC with automatic repeat request (ARQ) at the relay, with a much higher throughput. The scheme can be applied in wireless sensor and ad hoc networks.
