Course title Optical and Wireless Networks
Acronym 19E034OBM
Study programme Electrical Engineering and Computing
Module
Type of study bachelor academic studies
Lecturer (for classes)
Lecturer/Associate (for practice)
Lecturer/Associate (for OTC)
ESPB 6.0 Status mandatory
Condition
The goal Basic principles of operation and design of DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) backbone and GPON (Gigabit - capable passive optical networks) access optical networks. Basic principles of operation and design of WLAN (Wireless Local Area Networks).
The outcome The student should know the basic characteristics of the DWDM and GPON system components. The student should learn the basic principles of designing DWDM and GPON networks. The student should gain an insight into the organization of WLAN networks, as well as to have the ability to independently configure and put the network into operation.
Contents
Contents of lectures General characteristics, architecture and design of DWDM networks. General characteristics, architecture and design of GPON networks. WLAN - medium access techniques (DCF, PCF, EDCA, HCCA). Physical layer specifications. Roaming. Security procedures in WLAN networks (preserving the confidentiality and integrity of data and user authentication).
Contents of exercises DWDM network design through independent projects. Configuration of WLAN devices (ad-hoc and infrastructure topology), and roaming analysis within the existing WLAN network at the ETF.
