13M021OIEG - Renewable Energy Sources

Course specification
Course title Renewable Energy Sources
Acronym 13M021OIEG
Study programme Electrical Engineering and Computing
Module
Type of study master academic studies
Lecturer (for classes)
Lecturer/Associate (for practice)
Lecturer/Associate (for OTC)
ESPB 6.0 Status elective
Condition No prerequisites
The goal Provide students to understand the principles and technologies for obtaining electrical energy from renewable energy sources (wind power plants, PV power plants, solar-thermal power plants, biomass power plants and fuel cells). Provide students to understand the working conditions of the grid connected renewable sources and stand-alone renewable sources for supplying the isolated loads.
The outcome Introduce students to basic principles of measurement and analysis of renewable energy resources. Make students capable to project PV systems and wind power plants. Provide student with the ability to project hybrid systems for supplying the isolated loads.
Contents
Contents of lectures Ecological motivation for energy production by using renewable energy resources. Analysis of the solar resource. Grid connected PV systems design. Stand-alone PV systems design. Solar thermal power plants. Fuel cells. Biomass for electrical energy production. Analysis of the wind energy resource. Basics of wind power plant design.
Contents of exercises Creating project of the built integrated PV power plant using available insolation measured data. Creating project of the wind power plant using available wind measured data. Laboratory measurement and PV module performance analysis.
