The goal Overview of modern radio - systems. Basic characteristics and basic network concepts of modern radio systems. Public land mobile networks ( 2G, 2.5G, 3G, 3.5G, 3.9G, 4G) are considerd in more details. Basic design principles for certain types of radio networks (mobile, special purpose, broadcasting, local network).
The outcome Students should know the basic characteristics of the radio interfaces and the core networks of the most modern radio systems. In the case of public mobile systems, student should understand the basic call procedures and technical solutions of the system organization. Additionally, the student should master the basic design principles of the most important radio systems.

Contents of lectures Overview, basic principles and characteristics of modern radio systems. Public land mobile networks. GSM. GPRS. EDGE. UMTS. HSPA/HSPA+/MC-HSPA. LTE. TETRA. Radio navigation. Wireless LAN – WLAN. Wireless Personal Area Networks – WPAN. FWA ( Fixed Wireless Access ) and WLL ( Wireless Local Loop). Broadcasting systems. Radar systems. Satellite communication systems. Electro - smog.
Contents of exercises LAB: GSM simulator. UMTS simulator. Measuring the basic parameters of GSM system using dedicated measurement system. Measuring the basic parameters of UMTS system using dedicated measuring system. GPS receiver.

Methods of teaching Lectures and numerical exercises are conducted through PowerPoint presentations and by using blackboard. Practical classes are held in the laboratory and include practical demonstrations and independent student exercises.
