    The goal The students will be introduced with the fundamental principles and concepts of passband communications and transmission techniques, including the spread spectrum techniques and systems.
    The outcome Students are enabled to: - understand basic concepts of analog and digital passband transmission systems - quality criteria and limits, narrowband and spread spectrum systems, - use software tools to simulate transmission systems and analyze implementation aspects, to repeat and verify simple experiments, - model, analyze, understand design and develop passband transmission systems and elements.
    Contents of lectures Model of passband digital telecommunication system. Quality criteria. The concept of modulation. Quadrature modulation/demodulation. Modeling of narrowband signal and noise. Analog modulation techniques. Coherent and incoherent reception. FDM/FDMA. Digital modulation techniques. Spread spectrum systems. CDM/CDMA. Principles of implementation and overview of modern telecommunication systems.
    Contents of exercises Auditory, laboratory and demonstration exercises to introduce student with the basic working principles, modeling, implementation, design, signal processing techniques and analysis of analog and digital passband transmission systems. Individual work (optional) on projects and homework assignments.
