The goal Introduce students to architectures, technologies and protocols, which are used at the backbone of advanced telecommunication networks.
The outcome After passing the course students should: (1) gain knowledge of advanced backbone network technologies and protocols; (2) be able to analyze performances of IP networks with quality of service and/or MPLS support.
Contents
Contents of lectures (1) Introduction–definitions, service classification and integration, review of switching and transmission technologies at the backbone network. (2) Quality of service – architectures and building blocks. (3) Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) – basic operations, support of the DiffServ, traffic engineering. (4) IP/MPLS virtual private networks. (5) Generalized MPLS. (6) Carrier Ethernet.
