MS1MMS - Multimedia Multirate Systems

Course specification
Course title Multimedia Multirate Systems
Acronym MS1MMS
Study programme Electrical Engineering and Computing
Module Audio and Video Communications
Type of study master academic studies
Lecturer (for classes)
Lecturer/Associate (for practice)
Lecturer/Associate (for OTC)
    ESPB 6.0 Status elective
    Condition Signal Processing 1
The goal Objective of the course is to present principles of the multirate signal processing. The focus is on algorithms and realization structures of the multirate systems. Goal is to analyze applications related to telecommunications and audio signal processing and to develop software that solves typical practical problems.
The outcome Student will be able to understand basic and advanced concept related to multirate signal processing. They will know to develop MATLAB (or MATLAB clone) programs that simulate multirate systems. They will be trained to apply multirate techniques in solving problems related to telecommunications and audio signal processing and implement solutions in MATLAB.
Contents of lectures Basics of multirate systems, filters in multirate systems, FIR and IIR filters for sampling rate conversion, sampling rate conversion by a fractional factor, multirate techniques in filter design and implementation, comb-based filters for sampling rate conversion, multirate filter banks, applications of multirate systems in telecommunication and audio systems.
Contents of exercises Analysis and synthesis of the multirate filters and simulation of multirate systems in MATLAB (MATLAB clone).
