Course specification
Course title Fiber Optic Sensors
Acronym 13E064FS
Study programme Electrical Engineering and Computing
Module
Type of study bachelor academic studies
Lecturer (for classes)
Lecturer/Associate (for practice)
Lecturer/Associate (for OTC)
ESPB 6.0 Status elective
Condition No prerequisite
The goal Teach students about special optical fibers and other optical components used in the construction of fiber optic sensors (FOS). Introduction to the physical principles of operation, measurement techniques, classification and calibration of FOS. Demonstration of several FOS. Group student project where students design FOS for the concrete measurements.
The outcome Student knows working principles of all types of optical fibers and other optical components used in the fiber-optic sensors as well as the physical principles of operation, measurement techniques and classification of these sensors. Student is able to estimate when is optimal to use the fiber-optic sensors in measurement and how. Student is able to construct prototype and calibrate it.
