The goal Provide students with the ability to work independently in a laboratory Provide the students with the ability to operate electrical and electronic instrumentation and perform measurements. Provide the students with the ability to estimate the measurement uncertainty. Provide the students with the ability to compose their own measurements systems according to the measurement requirements.
The outcome Students will be trained for independent work in a lab, to use instrumentation, to measure and to estimate the measurement uncertainty. Students will be trained to choose adequate measurement methods. Students will be capable to design instruments with extended measurement range. Students will be trained to use oscilloscope.
Contents of lectures Introduction to metrology. Measurement uncertainty. Analog instruments with moving coil and moving iron: amperemeter, voltmeter, and ohmmeter. Measurement of alternating currents and voltages, rectifiers. Electronic instruments, instrumentation amplifiers and analog to digital converters. Oscilloscope. Bridges. Measurement of resistance, capacitance, inductance, mutual inductance and frequency.
Contents of exercises Lab exercises: 1. Measurement Results, Statistical Data Processing 2. Oscilloscope 1 3. Oscilloscope 2 4. Extension of the Measurement Range Using an External Shunt 5. Verification of a Digital Voltmeter and a Low-Frequency Voltage Source 6. Measurements of Maximal, Average, and RMS Values 7. Resistance Measurement 8.
