The goal To give students the basic knowledge of integrated circuit design. Understanding of the elements of circuit and system design. To develop the ability of students for group work, problem analysis, design, comparative analysis of the results, testing, documenting and presentation methods.
The outcome Students had the basic knowledge of techniques and ability to design and verify a small project of IC or integrated system.
Contents of lectures Short survey. CMOS production process. MOS transistor characteristics and models. SPICE transistor model parameters. Scaling. Full - custom IC design, rules, methods and practical design aspects. Standard - cell design. Design automation. Circuit extraction and simulation. Large capacitive loading, output buffers. Structured logic design, clocking. Ring oscillators. Dissipation.
Contents of exercises Design project is obligatory for each student (Magic, Spice, IRSIM).
