The goal Introduce students to the basic control concepts for regulated and deregulated power systems. Basic control loop definition and familiarisation with control resources and devices. Familiarise students with time and space problem decomposition, power system components model approximation and application for different power systems control aspects.
The outcome Provide students with the ability to design models and develop algorithms for analysis of control loops and control device effects. Provide students with the ability to conduct simulation by using standard program packages. Provide students with ability to analyse control system performances by combining engineering intuition and mathematical algorithms.
Contents
Contents of lectures General problems, goals and principles. Power system components modeling. Active power and frequency control. AGC in isolated and interconnected power systems. LFC in isolated and interconnected power systems. Reactive power and voltage control. Methods of voltage control. Excitation systems. Application of tap-changing transformers to voltage/reactive power control. FACTS devices.
Contents of exercises Dynamic nonlinear and linearized power system model synthesis. Automatic frequency control loop modeling. Setting up a system for the automatic voltage control. Regulators synthesis. Analysis of system performance.
