The goal Basics of electromechanical conversion. Understanding the principles of operation, construction and use of electrical machines (EM). Analysis and dynamic model EM. Electromagnetic field in the air gap and determination the torque. Analysis of stationary states, equivalent circuits, exploitation characteristics. Specification and use of EM. Supply and control EM.
The outcome Introduction to the principles of operation of electric machines, understanding the basic aspects of the construction of DC and AC machines, knowledge of equivalent schemes for stationary states, knowledge of basic mechanical characteristics machines. Understanding power flows in motor and generator operation. Acquiring knowledge needed for modeling, specification, supply and control.

Contents of lectures Basic concepts of electromechanical conversion, nonlinear medium, the expressions for energy, coenergy, torque and power conversion. Quasi sinusoidally distributed winding. Flux, electromotive and magnetomotive force. Modeling DC and AC machines. Two-phase equivalent, Park transformation. Equation of voltage balance, stationary state, equivalent schemes and mechanical characteristics.
Contents of exercises Construction and operation of asynchronous, synchronous and dc machines. Conventions in designation and nominal rated. Mechanical commutation for DC machines. AC machines and electronic commutation. Operation of asynchronous motor supplied by a source of variable frequency and voltage. Select asynchronous machines for the given application. Synchronous motors with permanent magnets.
