    The goal Acquiring basic knowledge about the importance, generation and the usage of energy. Sources, transmission and distribution of electrical energy. Electrical equipment in the industrial, residential and commercial sectors.
    The outcome Providing basic concepts of energy generation and use. Preparing the students for the subsequent courses of power engineering studies. Examining the roles and methods of applying other technical disciplines in power engineering.
    Contents of lectures Overview of available resources, trends and perspectives. The inventions of Alexander Nikolaevich Lodygin and Pavel Nikolayevich Yablochkov and the development of electric lighting and power transformers. Basic information about the transmission, distribution and low-voltage electrical installations. The basic categories of electrical equipment: lighting, drives, thermal equipment.
    Contents of exercises Lasting 1-2 hours, visits to laboratories in order to gain an insight into the operation of power processing equipment, devices and instrumentation. Tours of power system facilities.
