The goal Introduce the students to basics of mathematical modeling, computer simulation, and hardware emulation of communication networks and systems, for the purpose of their design and performance optimization.
The outcome The students will be capable of analyzing, designing, and optimizing communication networks and systems by using computer simulation.

Contents of lectures Methodology of modeling and simulation in telecommunications. Stating a simulation model. Monte Carlo simulation. Numerical aspects of simulation. Results processing. Conditions for ending the simulation. rare events simulation. optimization. Data and communication networks simulation. Hardware in the loop.
Contents of exercises Work in free software tools - GNU Octave, Python, Ns-3, gns3, Omnet++ etc. Protocol and system configuration analysis. Active devices and network simulation and emulation.
