The goal To familiarize students with the basics of digital image processing in space and frequency domain. Training of students to use the software packages for image processing, and also to implement their own algorithms for image processing and analysis.
The outcome After this course, the students are able to understand and implement the basic algorithms for image processing and use software packages or to write their own programs.

Contents of lectures Fundamentals of digital image processing. Formation of digital image and video signals. Discretization of 2D signals. Image transformations. Improvement of picture quality in space and transform domain. Improvement of color images. Picture degradation and restoration. Image compression. Standards for image compression. Processing of video signals. Edge detection. Image segmentation.
Contents of exercises Introduction to algorithms for image processing on a computer. Use of the programing system MATLAB.
