The goal Introduce students to the most important software tools for 3D electromagnetic modeling. Learn techniques for antenna design using software tools.
The outcome Train students for individual design of antennas using software tools.
Contents of lectures Numerical methods for modeling of antennas/scatterers: MoM, FEM, TLM, FDTD, PO, GO, hybrid techniques. Review of software tools: NEC, MiniNEC, SuperNEC, WireZeus, AWAS, OSU code, FEKO, IE3D, HFSS, CST, WIPL - D. Advanced techniques for modeling with focus on wire antennas (dipole, yagi, helicodial), antenna arrays, horn, reflector, and microstrip patch antennas. Matching circuits. Optimization.
Contents of exercises Work on computer. Practical use of software WIPL-D for antenna design.
