OT4PPR - Principles of Positioning in Radio Systems

Course specification
Course title Principles of Positioning in Radio Systems
Acronym OT4PPR
Study programme Electrical Engineering and Computing
Module Telecommunications and Information Technologies
Type of study bachelor academic studies
Lecturer (for classes)
Lecturer/Associate (for practice)
Lecturer/Associate (for OTC)
ESPB 6.0 Status elective
Condition Passed exam: Radio systems (OT4RS)
The goal Introduce students to the principles and methods of positioning in radio systems. The aim is to introduce the mathematical approach to determining the user location in the radio systems (probabilistic and deterministic), the parameters that can be used to determine location and characteristics of the positioning in the various radio systems (satellite-GPS, cellular-GSM, UMTS, LTE, indooor-WLAN).
The outcome Upon completion of the course, students should be able: - To determine user location in different types of radio systems - To assess the accuracy of the positioning process - To propose solutions to increase positioning accuracy - To evaluate the services in accordance with the possibilities of positioning.
Contents
Contents of lectures - Coordinate systems and map projections - The parameters of signals that can be used for positioning (time, power, angle, ...) - Sources of errors in positioning - Deterministic positioning methods (angulation, circular and hyperbolic lateration) - Probabilistic positioning methods - Fingerprinting positioning method - Positioning in GSM, UMTS, LTE, GPS, WLAN
