      The goal The objective of the course is to provide students the in-depth knowledge related to the design and development of smart sensors applicable in different sensing applications. The student will gather the knowledge related to the smart sensor embedded hardware and software design according to different implementation concepts, including the one defined with IEEE 1451 family of standards.
      The outcome Students will be able to define the architecture of smart transducer module and provide solution for the integration of different transducer functions and services on the microcontroller-based platform.
      Contents
      Contents of lectures Basic terms, overview of smart sensor characteristics, architectural styles and design concepts. Overview of IEEE 1451 standard for smart transducer design and implementation. Smart sensor configuration, interfacing, system integration issues. The analysis of the state of the art solutions in different application classes, including industrial applications, home automation, etc.
      Contents of exercises Study research work on the state of the art in the field of smart sensors, software and hardware design and development.
