13D021EPP - Electromagnetic Transients in Power Systems

Course specification
Course title Electromagnetic Transients in Power Systems
Acronym 13D021EPP
Study programme Electrical Engineering and Computing
Module
Type of study doctoral studies
Lecturer (for classes)
Lecturer/Associate (for practice)
    Lecturer/Associate (for OTC)
      ESPB 9.0 Status elective
      Condition High Voltage Technique 1
The goal Qualify students to perform insulation coordination projects.
The outcome Qualify students to perform fast transient simulations of lightning and switching over-voltages. Students are trained to apply software for fast transients numerical simulations, to prepare input data and to estimate minimum data for obtaining reliable results
      Contents
Contents of lectures Models of electrical power networks with lumped and distributed parameters. Distortion of waves due to the propagation. Frequency dependent ground return parameters of the overhead line. The determination of the optimal time-step. Overhead line corona modeling in transient simulations. Nonlinear transformer modeling. Risk of insulation failure estimation.
